Bread baked in Shaw has helped Warburtons become the country’s second highest selling brand name with sales worth £706 million last year.
The Bolton-based bakery, which has a plant in Glebe Street, Shaw, was pipped to top slot by Coca-Cola.
The drinks firm became the first brand to reach £1 billion in annual UK grocery sales, according to the Grocer magazine’s annual survey of Britain’s 100 top brands.
Walkers were in third place, selling £511 million worth of crisps.
