Train station call

Chadderton South ward councillor Dave Hibbert is calling for refurbishments at Mills Hill rail station.
In a letter to Simon Warburton, policy manager for Greater Manchester Integrated Transport Authority, he also calls for the car park to be improved.
Despite encouraging news about more carriages for use in the North-West and investment in Manchester’s Victoria Station, he told him there was no mention of improvements to the Leeds to Manchester service which runs through Mills Hill then Moston to Manchester.
Councillor Hibbert added: “Mills Hill car park is incapable of fulfilling its alleged ‘park and ride’ status.
“The area is too small and the parked vehicles are overflowing into the main road creating hazards for other drivers.
“Rainfall transforms the car park surface into a slush which is then carried into vehicles.
“The poor lighting and surrounding vegetation provide little sense of security and the area is being used for some undesirable activities.
“Residents deserve a better service than the one which is currently being provided.”
Councillor Hibbert also asked for investment and improvements at Moston Station which he says is extensively used by his constituents in Chadderton South.
He said: “It is filthy, dilapidated and unattractive.
“Being the last station on the line linking Yorkshire to the city of Manchester, it creates a very discouraging impression of Greater Manchester.”
