Residents face second highest council tax
Date published: 23 March 2010
OLDHAM no longer tops the list of shame for the highest council tax in Greater Manchester.
The borough has dropped to second place after agreeing a rise that means Band D payers will pay £1,542 in 2010-11.
Highest is Stockport where residents pay £1,559 a year in Band D.
The percentage increase this year — 1.9 per cent — also puts Oldham fourth lowest among the 10 authorities in Greater Manchester.
Councillor Lynne Thompson, Liberal Democrat Cabinet member for finance and resources said: “This is a milestone I am pleased with, but being second highest is not where I want this borough to be.
“We are is determined to continue what we have started and to get us further down that council tax league of shame.”
