Battle of the pom poms!
Date published: 25 March 2010
YOUNGSTERS from schools across the borough will be shaking their pom poms in a bid to be crowned Oldham Street Cheer champions.
Pupils at St Mary’s Primary in Failsworth, will be defending their crown at this year’s event at the Millennium Centre tomorrow.
And the winners will get to perform on the pitch at Boundary Park on April 3, when Latics take on Gillingham.
Since last year’s competition, Oldham Athletic Trust’s Blue Crew has expanded Street Cheer by delivering lessons to 14 new schools and 760 pupils.
Street Cheer coach Wendy Noble said: “It should be a great event and we are extremely excited to see the performances that the schools will produce.
“Street Cheer has been successful since we started and we are now working in more schools and also with some community groups too, which is enabling us to develop the activity to the next level in Oldham.”
