Extra time to recycle your junk
Date published: 26 March 2010
RESIDENTS starting their spring clean will soon have more time to recycle their unwanted goods.
To help residents make the most of their clear-out, all Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) across Greater Manchester are staying open for longer in the evening.
From Sunday, centres including those in Arkwright Street, Westwood, and Beal Hey, Chandos Street, Shaw, will be open 8am to 8pm daily.
Peter Heginbotham, chairman at Viridor Laing which runs the centres, said: “With the days getting longer, we want to help residents get the most out of the day, which is why we have extended the opening times to reflect British Summer Time.”
Councillor Swannick, Chair at Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority, said: “Recycling or donating unwanted items, not only creates more space in your home, but also diverts more waste from going to landfill sites which are quickly filling up.”
