PUPILS from Richmond Primary School’s Eco Team are hoping to litter-pick their way to a Green Flag Award.
A total of 13 youngsters from Years 2 to 6 cleared litter from the areas surrounding school grounds to contribute towards achieving their Green Flag Award.
Richmond Primary has Eco School status, which means it is part of an international award programme which encourages schools to be more green and promote sustainability.
The school, which already has two out of the three eco flags — bronze and silver — are now working hard towards the most prestigious award.
The event was held with support from Oldham Council’s Street Scene and Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale.
Mike West, Oldham Council Street Scene Area Manager, also attended.
Sophia Qureshi, Eco Schools Co-ordinator at Richmond Primary School, said: “It is important to educate all our children about throwing rubbish away responsibly.”
Rebekah Beresford, Education and Community Project Officer at Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale, said: “It was fantastic to see the team pulling together to tackle the litter.”
