10 held after arches search

Police arrested 10 people in Oldham on Saturday when knife arches were used in daylight then at night.
The metal scanner was first used on shoppers in Oldham town centre on Saturday afternoon, when 400 people passed through. Only one was searched.
The knife arch was later used in Yorkshire Street after 9pm and 1,900 town centre revellers were scanned, and 40 searched.
None were caught with knives, but there were six arrests for drug offences, one wanted offender was picked up, one drunk and disorderly offender and two picked up for traffic offences.
Insp Melita Worswick said: “No knives were found and what we hope is that the message is getting through to members of the public.”
