Council set to balance budget
Date published: 30 March 2010
OLDHAM Council’s latest financial report shows that work to balance the budget is on track.
The report, to be considered by Cabinet tomorrow, is being signed off earlier than ever before thanks to improved financial systems.
The previously projected overspend has now been largely resolved, say council chiefs, and at month nine stands at £110,000 — or 0.05 per cent of the overall budget.
Councillor Lynne Thompson, Cabinet member for finance and resources, said: “The council is committed to balancing the budget by the end of the year and is on track to achieve this.
“This forecast reflects the most up-to-date financial position as we continue to reap the rewards of the tremendous amount of work that has gone on so far into efficiency savings, individual directorate budgets and a review of the council’s reserves.
“I am confident that the council will have a balanced budget by the end of the year.”
