Philip Rogers: injured in charity fund-raiser
AN afternoon of fund-raising fun had a painful ending for Chadderton councillor Philip Rogers.
The Tory councillor took part in a charity basketball match at Kaskenmoor Ball Hall in Hollinwood on Sunday. As he went in for a challenge he fell to the floor and broke his left shoulder.
He said: “Apparently I bounced when I hit the floor and I knew straight away that I’d done something serious but I played for another two minutes until the half-time whistle and then rushed to casualty. They told me I’d broken my shoulder and will have to keep it immobilised for six weeks. I am going to the fracture clinic later this week and may have to have it pinned.
“I was really enjoying the match before that happened as I haven’t played basketball since my school days. I think I can safely say my basketball days are over but the event raised £300 for Sport Relief so I’m really pleased with that.”
