All change at Mumps as work continues

OUT with the old . . . Mumps Station is getting set for Metrolink
THE Mumps landscape is dramatically altering as work to convert the Oldham loop line for the arrival of Metrolink continues.
The famous red canopy has now been removed and transported to Bury where it will stand proudly on the East Lancs Railway.
When trams start to run next year there will be a temporary station at Mumps while work to construct the town centre line takes place. The canopy, which was set to be demolished, was saved after talks with contractors M-Pact Thales, Metrolink company Stagecoach and local transport bosses. The iron structure will be used to provide authentic shelter at the vintage railway between Rawtenstall and Heywood. The wrought iron railings which led passengers up to the platform are also being retained by the railway company.
