HOME owners in Chadderton will team up with the council to give their streets a spring clean.
The Community Beatsweep will take place from Tuesday to Thursday, April 6-8, in Chadderton Way, Burnley Lane and Abson Street.
The area was identified as a grot spot so the council and partner agencies decided to clean it up with the help of residents.
Litter and dog waste has already been cleared up and graffiti removed from buildings and a subway. Overgrown vegetation has also been cut back.
Flytipping was also looked at and the police investigated an antisocial behaviour issue linked to a particular property.
A door-to-door survey was carried out asking if residents would like to sign up to a community pledge.
Work does not stop there as a number of actions have been proposed over the three-day beat-sweep to prevent a recurrence.
A mobile police station will be deployed to give residents advice and information about police and council services.
Waste-related issues will be monitored and a community litter pick is proposed. The council’s highways department will also repair damaged street lamps and look at improving street lighting.
Councillor Philip Rogers, Community Champion for Chadderton, said: “This area was identified as a grotspot, partner agencies deciding to help improve the lives of its citizens.
“This is not the end of the work and we will be ensuring the high standard of cleanliness is maintained.”
Anyone who would like to get involved with something similar in their area can contact the council’s Street Scene department on 0161 770 4434 or send an email to street.scene@oldham.gov.uk .
