A GLODWICK trader has been jailed after he admitted making and selling counterfeit DVDs.
Usman Khadam (22), of Savoy Street, was sentenced to 21 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to offences under the Trade Marks Act 1994 at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court.
At the time of the offences, Khadam ran a DVD stall on Tommyfield Market and a DVD shop in Glodwick.
Trading standards officers carried out a test purchase in September, 2008, and raided both premises two months later.
As a result of the raids 1,973 counterfeit DVDs were seized.
In addition, officers discovered thousands of blank discs, 500 DVD cases, two boxes of DVD sleeves, bags of printer cartridges, a computer tower, a laptop, two scanners, a printer and DVD writers.
Elaine McLean, Oldham Council’s executive director for economy, places and skills, said: “The council is committed to cracking down on counterfeiting of any kind and this successful prosecution is evidence of this.”
