Cast helps firefighters’ charity effort

ACTORS gave a polished performance as they helped Oldham’s brave fire fighters scrub up for charity.

Cast members of the forthcoming musical “Up On the Roof” at Oldham Coliseum give their support for the National Car Wash Day on behalf of The Fire Fighters Charity.

The cast helped the firefighters at Oldham Station, Lees Road, prepare for the event by handing over 2-4-1 vouchers for the show at the Oldham Coliseum Theatre, to give to the drivers of the first 100 cars to be washed.

The charity helps injured firefighters in their time of need and it is their largest fundraising event of the year, involving fire stations throughout the UK washing the nation’s cars in exchange for a donation.

The event also helps raise awareness of the risks that firefighters have to endure. As they put their efforts into providing a first-rate shampoo and polish, motorists were able to chat to them and pick up top home safety tips.

Firefighters see firsthand how fire can destroy lives and devastate communities with statistics showing that 29 children under the age of 11 are killed in fires in the UK every year and more than 1,100 are seriously injured.

The event, sponsored by Drivetime UK Driver Training, raised around £20,000 across Manchester.

“Up on the Roof” features Motown and soul songs and runs from Friday to May 1 with tickets available from 0161-624 2829.
