Netball’s ‘Queen Nadia’ dies

AN inspirational netball coach, who was known as Queen Nadia, has died at the age of 52.

Nadia Wilkins, of Lynton Close, Chadderton, died at the Christie Hospital where she had been receiving treatment for cancer.

The mother-of-two introduced thousands of girls to the game over the past 13 years earning her the nickname.

She was also a member of Oldham’s “It’s A Knockout” team that regularly competed in televised events during the 1970s and went on to represent the country at competitions in Germany and Hong Kong.

She leaves behind children Danny and Dean, brother Alex, sister Maria, mother Elena and partner David Archibald.

A service and internment will take place on Saturday, April 10, at St Herbert’s RC Church, Broadway, at noon.
