76 caught in school-run blitz

A police crackdown on the school run resulted in 76 motorists each being fined £60 fine for not wearing a seatbelt.
Officers from the Chadderton Neighbourhood Policing Team launched the campaign following concerns from residents and schools.
A week-long initiative increased patrols at the start and end of the school day to target illegal parking and those not wearing seatbelts. One vehicle was seized for having no insurance.
PC Adele Brown said: “Through this initiative we have been raising awareness about basic road safety and reminding people that they are breaking the law if they don’t wear a seatbelt. You are twice as likely to die in a crash if you don’t wear a seatbelt, so it’s important to make sure drivers and their passengers belt up.
“As well as targeting those not wearing seatbelts, we also want to encourage drivers on the school run to be more considerate about where they park their cars.
“Parking too close to the entrance of the schools causes congestion and makes the roads more dangerous for children to cross.
“We hope that through this crackdown, drivers will now find more suitable places to park and walk their children into school.”
