PEDAL power is helping Chadderton Neighbourhood Policing Team fight crime.

Two new bikes have been funded by Chadderton central councillors Eileen Hulme and councillor John Hudson out of their allowances to help the team improve the service it delivers to the community.

Sgt Kam Hare said the bikes were a great addition to the team.

He said: “Part of the Policing Pledge is about ensuring our officers spend 80 per cent of their time out in the community, responding to the needs of our residents.

“These bikes will certainly help us meet this commitment, enabling officers to patrol our communities more easily and respond to incidents more quickly.

“Bikes also give officers the advantage of being able to sneak up quietly on suspected criminals as well as the ability to get to places that cars can’t reach like parks and alleyways.”

Councillor Hulme said: “The Neighbourhood Policing Team is a key part of the Chadderton community and the officers have built up effective relationships with residents.

“By funding the bikes, the officers can get out and about more easily and provide a more effective service for our residents.”
