Students voted for their new academy logo
THE future’s bright, the future’s blue and green for the Breeze Hill and Counthill pupils.
They have overwhelmingly chosen the “Waterhead Swirl” as the badge for the academy which will replace their schools in September.
Students at both took part in sessions to find out what kind of logo they would like. A professional designer then came up with three ideas and they voted for their favourite.
They were impressed its “modern” colours and design which represents the merger of the secondaries in the the new Waterhead Academy.
Academy principal David Yates said: “Our new logo brings together two elements into one so I’m not surprised that our future pupils chose it to represent their new school.”
The 1,500 place academy will be run by Oldham College and initially open in the existing schools. It will then move into a new building in Huddersfield Road, Waterhead, in 2012.
The logo will feature on school uniforms, signs and business materials, and Oldham College principal Alun Francis added: “The consultative approach we have taken in designing our new logo will continue and we look forward to working with our future pupils, their parents and staff in the coming months.
“The community in and around Waterhead will also have the opportunity to become increasingly involved as we ask for their views on the design and function of the new building.”
