Hit-run death: driver bailed

A motorist arrested over a fatal collision in which an 11–year–old girl witnessed her father being knocked down in Failsworth, has been bailed by police.
Wayne Leary (38) died in hospital shortly after suffering serious head injuries when he was struck by a car while crossing the road in Failsworth.
He had left his daughter, Amy, on the pavement as he went to get the phone number of a local takeaway.
The collision involving a Kia Picanto took place as he returned towards Amy. Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision which took place in Oldham Road at about 11.20pm on Saturday.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “A 38–year–old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been bailed until June 1 pending further inquiries.
“Traffic officers are still appealing for any witnesses to contact them on 0161 856 8473.”
