THORP Primary School pupils were stars for the day when they officially opened Royton’s newest food store.
They cut the red ribbon at the former Somerfield shop in Rochdale Road, which has undergone a £700,000 makeover to convert it into a Co-operative store following the Co-operative Group’s acquisition of the supermarket chain last year.
The youngsters were also presented with £200 for school funds by store manager Mike Halliwell, who said: “As the Co-operative is very much a community retailer, it is appropriate that our local school is involved in our special event.”
