AN ex-pat who swapped Oldham for Oz is appealing for help to solve a footballing mystery.
Margaret Harrison (85) is trying to find out more about the winning team in this photograph taken in the 1920s or 30s.
Her father, Harold Turner — who once had trials for Oldham Athletic — proudly sits in the centre as captain.
The photograph has been in the family for years, but Margaret does not know any anything else about it
Her father used to work for Platt Brothers and she said: “He used to play in a lot of medal competitions.
“Each workshop had a team and they all played each other.
“When I was quite tiny I used to have to go with him.
“It was nearly always near a pub and my mother would send me with him so he couldn’t go in the pub!
“He was a good footballer and had trials with Oldham Athletic. He also played water polo for Robin Hill Baths, and was a good swimmer.”
Margaret grew up in Ogden Street, Chadderton, with sisters Ethel and Renee. However, she moved to Brisbane in 1997 to join her son, Stuart, and his family who had emigrated.
Back in Oldham to visit family, she hopes Chronicle readers can solve the mystery of the photograph and added: “Somebody might recognise their great-grandfather or the mascot who is the youngest person in the photograph.”
