OLDHAM urologists will be striding out on an ambitious fundraising mission . . . the conquest of Mount Snowdon.

The 10-strong team who have cheekily called themselves the Willy Walkers, will complete the Snowdon Challenge next month in aid of the Prostate Cancer Research Centre.

Staff at the Royal Oldham Hospital’s urology ward and outpatients department have roped in friends and relatives to help them in their quest to climb the 3,560ft mountain.

The gang aims to raise £2,500 and have set up a sponsorship page at www.justgiving.com/urology-royaloldham .

The group admit they haven’t been doing much serious training but walks in Tandle Hill Park and healthy eating and drinking have formed part of the preparation work. The Prostate Cancer Research Centre is based at the Institute of Urology at University College London where scientists investigate the development of the disease and explore possible treatments.

Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men and affects more than 30,000 each year.
