Woolas in the cabinet dream team

AN Oldham candidate has been included in a fantasy cabinet of politicians who should run Britain as the outcome of a hung Parliament looks ever more certain.
Oldham East and Saddleworth Labour candidate Phil Woolas should be Leader of the Commons, according to a national newspaper.
Alongside the Immigration Minister, Nick Clegg should be Deputy Prime Minister after his success in the first televised leaders debate, and the Prime Minister should be either Gordon Brown or David Cameron depending on who has the most MPs.
The Chancellor would be Lib-Dems veteran Vince Cable, the first to warn of recession.
Mr Woolas said: “It’s only a bit of fun but its pleasing to think I have support. I was the deputy leader of the Commons so I know how it works — and doesn’t work.”
Meanwhile, all polls have shown a Lib-Dems bounce since the television debates.
A YouGov poll showed the Lib Dems had gained 11 per cent over the past week, reaching 29 per cent — the highest for nearly 30 years.
However, they still narrowly trailed Labour — which dropped two points to 30 per cent — while the Tories had fallen seven to 33 per cent.
Other polls varied but all seemed to show the Conservatives were suffering more than Labour from the Lib-Dems surge.
Conservative leader David Cameron warned that a hung parliament risked undermining efforts to tackle the country’s massive deficit.
Prime Minister and Labour leader Gordon Brown warned the prospect of any Tory Government cutting £6 billion of immediate public spending cuts “sends shivers down my spine.”
Shadow chancellor Mr Cable said the party had its feet “firmly on the ground” despite the recent popularity.
There would be no change in the party’s election strategy, he added.
