Busy student Arif Ahmed Mohid is training for climbing Kilimanjaro by jogging, running his family business and training to be a teacher.

The 23-year-old from Coppice sets off for Africa in July to climb the continent’s highest mountain in aid of child victims of the wars in Afghanistan.

And he is fitting his training around running the family’s shop in Sickle Street, Glodwick, supporting his mum and three sisters, and completing his PGCE teaching qualification.

Arif, a Manchester University graduate, took over Greenhill Food Store after his father died two years ago.

He said: “My friends have said I must be mad doing all this at once. I inquired about climbing Kilimanjaro last year, but it clashed with my graduation from university.

“It’s the first time I’m doing anything like this for charity, and I’ve started training by jogging, but I’m also really busy because of my studies.”

Arif will be raising money for the Muslim Hands charity during its annual Green Ribbon week, which raises money for children suffering in conflicts around the world.

“My minimum aim is to raise £3,000, and I’ve started during the recent holidays and raised £200, so I’ve a long way to go.”
