Oldham feels Poland’s pain

OLDHAM’S Polish community was represented at a national memorial service for the leaders of their home country who lost their lives in the recent air disaster.

Genia Marzec was part of a contingent from Oldham who travelled to the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire to lay a wreath. She made the trip as secretary of the Oldham branch of the Polish Ex-Combatants’ Association, alongside standard bearers from Oldham and neighbouring towns, who also took part in the service.

The poignant service commemorated the 96 people who lost their lives in the Polish air disaster, four of whom had been at last September’s unveiling ceremony of the memorial.
