Touchdown relief for passengers
Date published: 22 April 2010
THERE were emotional scenes at Manchester Airport yesterday as passengers finally landed back on British soil after being stranded abroad for almost a week.
The volcanic ash cloud from Iceland saw air travel grind to a halt last Thursday leaving holidaymakers stuck abroad with no idea of when they would make it home.
The Civil Aviation Authority eased restrictions at 10pm on Tuesday and 10 flights left Manchester Airport soon after.
The first flight into Manchester landed at 4.15am yesterday from Sharm-el-Sheikh with 60 passengers on board. Outgoing flights soon started to leave the airport.
Staff at Ringway’s car parks waived charges for the extra days vehicles were left at the airport.
