BUDDING musicians will get the chance to sample a host of different styles and cultures.
The council’s music service has enlisted the help of specialist tutor Andy Warn who will run classes in Chinese, Brazilian Samba and African music to give youngsters an insight into a range of cultures. Children will be able to listen to and try out a range of instruments.
Andy is an accomplished musician whose experience as a performer ranges from his years as a rock musician to classic recitals. He also runs his own teaching studio and directs ensembles and youth orchestras. His most recent study of African, Indian and Indonesian music has brought a sound of the exotic to schools across the country.
Margaret Brown, head of world music and keyboards at Oldham Music Service, said: “The classes are very stimulating and entertaining for the children.”
The workshops will take place at St Hilda’s primary, Oldham, on Monday, Our Lady’s RC High School, Royton (Tuesday), Royton Hall (Wednesday), Sacred Heart, Derker (Thursday) and Mayfield, Derker (Friday).
