VETERAN of the peace movement Bruce Kent came to Saddleworth last night to ask the question “Can we afford Trident? Healthcare or warfare.”
The 80-year-old former general secretary of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament is one of Britain’s most prominent peace campaigners.
He sparked a debate at the Civic Hall, Uppermill at the invitation of Saddleworth Peace Movement. The organisation says Oldham taxpayers will fork out £362 million towards the £76billion cost of replacing the Trident nuclear weapons system.
