Green light for Borough Triangle demolition work
Date published: 26 April 2010
DEMOLITION work is about to start at the Borough Triangle development site in Hathershaw.
The area is a key project in the Fitton Hill and Hathershaw New Deal for Communities project area, between Ashton Road, Copster Hill Road and Schofield Street.
Developer Countryside Properties has drawn up plans to provide up to 300 contemporary homes, new shops and offices, with landscaped areas and open space.
The proposals have been commissioned by New Deal for Communities, Housing Market Renewal and Oldham Council.
Now Oldham Council, which owns the land including the former Richard Court garage, Castle Mill, Falcon House and Borough Mill, which are all empty and in the first development phase, has commissioned the demolitions.
A report to councillors says the buildings are regularly attracting vandalism and thefts, and are costing money for security and boarding up.
The contracts include service disconnections, an asbestos survey and asbestos removal, before final demolition, and will total £469,000.
