Daffodil display a hit in Shaw
A HOST of golden daffodils is brightening up Shaw and Crompton after the hardy flowers beat the winter weather.
The blooms start on Oldham Road, spread across the Big Lamp roundabout and stretch along Crompton Way up to the final batch at Wren’s Nest.
The Rotary Club of Crompton and Royton approached Oldham Council’s Street Scene department last year with the idea of planting them.
An agreement was reached between Oldham Council and the Rotary Club on covering the costs.
Oldham Council leader Councillor Howard Sykes said: “This a great example of a local organisation coming up with a great idea, talking to the council about it and making it happen.”
Rotary Club president Peter Lomas said: “After all the snow and ice it seemed to take a long time for the daffodils first to grow and then to flower. It’s been well worth the wait however, we are delighted with the present display.
“Hopefully the flowers will last a few weeks.
“Let’s not forget this isn’t a project just for this year, the display should get even better over the years.
“The aim was to brighten up Shaw for a few weeks with the daffodils and I hope everyone is enjoying them.”
