TRADITIONAL dress . . . members of the Horseboating Society
SADDLEWORTH took a step back in time with traditional dress and transport.
The Horseboating Society held its fourth “legging” of Stanedge Tunnel along with a day-long extravaganza for all the family at the weekend.
And as it was St George’s Day weekend the event fitted the theme with dragon slaying, fire-breathers and Morris dancers. The celebrations were extra special this year as it’s 200 years since the tunnel was under construction, before officially opening in 1811.
Society members showed their endurance when “legging” the narrow boat for two-hours through the tunnel.
