Councillor John Sullivan sees his name on the board, with present day pupils Sarah Lewis and Tom Parsons.
The Mayor of Tameside visited his old school in Oldham — and found his name on the prizemen’s board for winning the governors’ silver medal.
Councillor John Sullivan was awarded the medal, for general good work at the Blue Coat School, in 1969, but has never seen the inscription.
He put that right with a visit to the Egerton Street school, where he was met by present day pupils Sarah Lewis and Tom Parsons.
Councillor Sullivan was born in Salford, but raised in Oldham, and has lived in Tameside since 1987.
After leaving Blue Coat, he graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester in 1972 and worked as a music teacher and head of music.
