£18,000 pot plants found in hideaway under wardrobe

A CANNABIS farm has been discovered in a secret cellar of a Failsworth property.

Police executed a warrant at a ground- floor flat in Hardman Lane following tip-offs from local residents.

It was during a thorough search of the property that officers found and recovered 80 cannabis plants in a concealed, converted cellar with a rigged lighting system and heating equipment.

The only entrance to the cellar was underneath loose floorboards hidden under a wooden shoe rack inside a built-in bedroom wardrobe.

The electricity meter at the property had been tampered with to supply power to the cellar. The cannabis had a street value of approximately £18,000.

Police arrested a 32-year-old at the property on suspicion of cultivating cannabis with intent to supply and electricity theft in yesterday morning’s swoop.

PC Andy Pickering, from the Failsworth and Hollinwood Neighbourhood Policing Team, said the warrant was issued after members of the public contacted police.

He said: “I would like to thank the people who provided us with information which led to the arrest and disruption of this illegal activity.

“Drug activity leads to an increase in crime and anti-social behaviour, and will not be tolerated in the Failsworth area.

“Action will be taken if any drug paraphernalia is found.

Anyone with information should call the Neighbourhood Policing team on 0161-856 8914.”
