OLDHAM’S Town Centre Action Plan has been unveiled.
Sub-groups will be established to implement the plan, which runs up to March 2013.
Its objectives include sustaining the town centre economy, developing the quality and variety of town centre shops, capitalising on Metrolink to develop accessibility, maintaining and improving its appearance, security and safety, and increasing visitor numbers.
Wi-fi a step closer
A PROJECT to make Oldham a wi-fi hotspot aims to create a unique selling point for the town centre, particularly for young people and business men, said Mark Lester.
The infrastructure should soon be in place to allow people to access the Internet in the town centre for free.
A welcome page on the system will also enable the council to communicate key messages.
Business as usual
REGENERATION officers say work to bring Metrolink down Union Street will start later this year but they will ensure the town centre remains open for business with diversion signs set up.
Roadworks will be in place along the street until 2013 but trams will already be operating along the loopline by then.
