RAISING awareness . . . rotarian Geoffrey Buckley encourages a passer-by to have his blood pressure checked
ROTARIANS took to the streets to back a stroke awareness campaign.
The Rotary Club of Crompton and Royton spread the message in Market Street, Shaw, in support of the campaign being promoted by The Stroke Association.
They were encouraging members of the public to take a free blood pressure test.
More than 150 people took the test and a small number were recommended to seek further medical advice.
President-elect Derek Cottrell, who masterminded the event, said: “The public response was excellent and a record number of people took the test.
Without the help of two lovely nurses, Vera and Jo, we could not have organised the event.
“It was a lovely morning and Market Street was busy, and we were fortunate in that local solicitors Andrew Thorne & Co allowed us to use their offices.
“Next year we would like to run the tests in Royton as well, but so far we haven’t found a base.
“If anyone in the vicinity of Royton Precinct is able to let us have use of a small office or shop for a few hours on a Saturday, we would love to hear from them on 01706-846446.”
