New police plot roots out drugs

GREEN-fingered police officers have set up a carrot and cabbage plot with equipment seized from local cannabis farms.
Over the past few weeks, the Failsworth and Hollinwood Neighbourhood Policing Team have uncovered four cannabis farms including equipment such as planters and seed trays.
Now the unused equipment is being put to better use at the Grass Roots project, a community gardening scheme in Failsworth.
Inspector Dave Stopford said: “Grass Roots is a great project, which brings the community together and we’ve got some green-fingered neighbourhood officers who regularly stop by and have a chat with the members. When we recovered the equipment, they immediately sprang to mind, as we know they’ll put them to good use.
“Over the past few weeks we have been successful in uncovering a number of cannabis farms and preventing these drugs from reaching the streets of Oldham.”
