ATTACKED . . . Scott Lomas
A DAD was savaged by a dog in a horrific attack — after first being bitten by a thug.
Scott Lomas (41), from Derker, had his eyebrow almost bitten off by the lout before having his head shoved towards the snarling Staffordshire Bull Terrier, which sank its teeth into his cheek and arm.
His policewoman wife Michelle (38) rushed to fight off his assailants and free him.
But the scuba diving instructor needed 12 stitches in his right eyebrow, nine stitches in his left cheek and suffered puncture wounds to his arm.
The savage attack happened at 8pm on Saturday as the couple dropped into a newsagents on London Road.
Mr Lomas spotted that a little girl was struggling to free her tied up Collie dog as the Staffordshire bounded over to fight it, with three men, in their early 20s, in pursuit. The Staffordshire’s owner kicked the Collie and Mr Lomas bravely intervened. They exchanged words before he was threatened by the gang.
Mr Lomas was getting back in his car when one of the youths slammed the door on his leg. He was left grappling with the man while his wife grabbed the other.
He said: “The third one rained blows on me. He jumped on top of me and had me in a headlock and bit my face. The dog then bit my right arm down to the bone and sunk its teeth into my cheek. It pulled through my cheek and lost its grip. My wife got hold of the dog. These lads then realised the dog had ripped a lump off my face and they ran off.”
Mr Lomas was taken to hospital where he was stitched up and given a range of jabs.
Police arrested two men on the night and a third later handed himself in. They have been bailed and officers have appealed for witnesses.
