Local voters were in tune with the nation as they delivered a hung council in Oldham.
"That's just the way the cookie crumbles," declared Lib Dem leader Howard Sykes as he saw his party's overall control of Oldham Council disappear with the loss of three seats.
The five-seat Tories and the council's only Independent, Ian Barker, may now hold the balance of power, with the Lib Dems and Labour both on 27 seats . . .
