Brass band playing amnesty appeal again

A brass band is offering an amnesty to former members — lay down your instruments, uniforms and scores.
Dobcross Silver Band is hunting for equipment and music which may have been borrowed and forgotten, to help build up its supplies.
Band trustee Phil Cumberworth explained that although bands do keep inventories, the problem usually arises at hectic times such as Whitsun when players drop in to take part in the processions and need to borrow various pieces of equipment.
He added: “The Chronicle ran a story for us about an amnesty some years ago. The result was extremely successful with equipment being returned for various bands.
“So we would now like to repeat the appeal and ask that any borrowed property, no matter how small an item, is returned to its rightful band in time for Whitsun.
“Once again, if anyone wishes to remain anonymous they can call John Holden, band president, on 01457-873 741 or Philip Cumberworth on 01457- 810 977 and we will pick it up and return on their behalf.
“If anyone has any of their own equipment they no longer use please contact your local band with a view to selling or donating.
“Brass bands usually need extra equipment for teaching and every little helps.”
