Arson attack appeal
Date published: 13 May 2010
POLICE have appealed for witnesses following the arson attack that engulfed more than 250 cars in an Oldham scrapyard.
The fire service spent several hours extinguishing the blaze at Broadbent Auto Spares, Broadbent Road, Watersheddings, last Thursday.
Det Con Sue Jones, of Oldham CID, said: “Thankfully no one was hurt, but it could have been so different. Firefighters risked their lives to tackle a large fire caused by the idiotic actions of thugs who broke into the scrapyard.
“I would now like to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious near the scrapyard that night.”
The offenders struck shortly after midnight, breaking in by removing cement slabs from a wall. They set fire to a number of cars, which then spread.
