POLICE with a nose for trouble swooped on a three-storey house in Shaw which was being used as a cannabis farm.
The officers from the Shaw and Royton Neighbourhood Team were carrying out a warrant in Cape Gardens yesterday when they smelled the pungent odour of cannabis coming from the house next door.
They secured a warrant from magistrates and returned to the address, where they discovered 100 plants worth around £80,000, plus a nursery cultivating young plants.
It was a triple success for the officers who also arrested two people, one in Lyon Street, the other in Cape Gardens, for drugs offences.
Neighbourhood Insp Karen Taylor said: “It was a good result for just one day and we will be doing more of this.
“We are getting quite a lot of information from the public which is brilliant for us. We always act on what people give us.
“There was no-one in the Cape Gardens property and we believe it was just being used as cannabis farm.
“It had the full set up of hydroponics and we called the utility company to deal with the tap into the electricity supply.
“We ask residents to phone us with any information they have.”
