Police to forge school links
Date published: 17 May 2010
Police officers will be going back to school this week to talk to pupils about how to stay safe.
Cops from Saddleworth and Lees Neighbourhood Policing Team will give talks about stranger danger and road safety to pupils at Christ Church School in Denshaw. The visit is part of a week of activities when police will be out and about speaking to Denshaw residents to find out their concerns about crime and anti-social behaviour.
Residents can go on a walk-about with neighbourhood officers, representatives from First Choice Homes Oldham and Oldham Council on Wednesday. Meet at 10am at the Rochdale Road and Dumfries Avenue junction.
Later, Oldham Community Health will lead a family health walk around the village, from Christ Church School, at 3.30pm.
And the council’s integrated youth services are holding a sports taster session on Thursday at Denshaw Village Hall, between 7 and 9pm.
PCSO Monica Seville said: “By getting out into the community and speaking to residents directly, we have a great opportunity speak to people who may not otherwise have had the chance to voice their concerns.
“A big part of this week is about getting to know our young people, talking to them about the role of the Neighbourhood Policing Team and how we work together with the community to make their area safer.
“This breaks down barriers, answers questions about the police and makes us more approachable.”
The next Saddleworth North Partners and Communities Together (PACT) meeting is also on Thursday at Denshaw Village Hall between 7 and 8pm.
