Crash driver critical

A 23-year-old man remains critical but stable three weeks after a car crash in Chadderton.

He was rescued by firefighters and treated for a fractured hip as well as back and neck injuries. He is still in intensive care at North Manchester General Hospital.

Another 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has been bailed until June 14 pending further police inquiries.

The smash involved a Rover 220 and Skoda Octavia outside the Whitegate Inn, at the junction of Broadway and Hollinwood Avenue, on April 23 at 7.30pm.

Traffic police are continuing to appeal for witnesses, and ask anyone with information to call 0161-856 8473.


Car hits tree

A 20-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after the car he was driving hit a tree.

Firefighters had to cut the unconscious man free from the Peugeot 306 after the accident in Lees New Road, Holts, at 10.50pm yesterday.

The car had struck the tree after travelling over a mini-roundabout, close to the junction with Wildmoor Avenue.

The driver was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital with serious head injuries.

Three passengers managed to get out of the car before firefighters arrived.

A 23-year-old man suffered a minor head injury and a fractured pelvis.

A 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy suffered minor injuries.
