‘Kes’ auditions set for Sunday
Date published: 18 May 2010
THE tale of a neglected schoolboy who finds solace in his friendship with a kestrel will open the Coliseum’s autumn/winter season.
Budding actors aged between 11 and 15 are invited to audition for “Kes” which will run at the Fairbottom Street theatre from September 3-25. Auditions will be held on Sunday at the theatre.
“Kes” tells the tale of Billy, who is bullied at home and at school and feels like giving up until he meets his feathered friend.
Nurturing Kes provides an escape from the mundane reality of life and allows Billy to discover his true identity.
As the relationship grows so does Billy’s spirit and he soon uncovers a whole new peace and purpose to life which others around him cannot begin to understand. The play was also staged at the Coliseum in 1978 when a young Michael Le Vell — Corrie mechanic Kevin Webster — took the lead role.
