FIREFIGHTERS in Hollins came to the rescue after a man fell down a hole and impaled his arm on a spike.
The man was taking a short-cut across the Heron Mill site with a friend at 2am today when he slipped down a pothole.
The pair used a t-shirt to stem the blood loss and managed to get to the fire station in Hollins Road.
Officer Mark Hoalffit gave the man first aid and dressed the wound until paramedics took him to the Royal Oldham Hospital where he was kept in overnight.
