It’s good to talk!
Date published: 19 May 2010
Young people will find it’s good to talk when a new health and well-being clinic opens in Oldham to give them support and guidance.
Lindley House Health Centre will be running the clinic every Wednesday, between 2pm and 7.15pm.
No appointment is needed at the confidential sessions, so young people can simply walk in for advice on topics including health, body confidence issues, drugs, alcohol, sexual health and emotional well-being.
They will also be able to access contraception, sexually transmitted infection testing, pregnancy testing and support to access a termination of pregnancy.
Today a representative from the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities will be attending. Depending on the level of interest this could be repeated every month.
Future sessions will also provide links to mental health services, such as the new Cognitive Behaviour Therapy service.
Dr Shelley Grumbridge from Lindley House Health Centre, said: “We are aiming to provide support and guidance to Oldham’s young people in the easiest and most informal way possible.
“We hope by doing this they will feel encouraged to come along and talk through any problems they have, rather than dwelling on them in silence.”
Translation support will be available for anyone whose first language isn’t English.
