Floor collapse leaves 67-year-old under rubble
A PLUMBER had a lucky escape when the floor of a house he was working on collapsed leaving him trapped under rubble.
The 67-year-old was trapped for an hour after his arm was pinned to the floor at the end terrace property in Morris Street, Glodwick, at 2.30pm yesterday.
Specialist search and rescue firefighters rushed to the scene to secure the wall at the back of the house to allow paramedics to get in and treat the worker.
The man, who stayed conscious throughout his ordeal, suffered minor head injuries and was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital for treatment.
The street was cordoned off by police and closed for almost two hours until a structural engineer from Oldham Council inspected the house to make sure it was safe.
Neighbours lined the street to see what was going on and said the house had recently been bought and was undergoing a total refurbishment.
