CHARITY goal . . . Northside, left and Hollyoaks before their match at Boundary Park
STARS of the TV soap “Hollyoaks” got their revenge on a Chadderton football team as they stormed to victory at a charity match at Boundary Park.
Actors from the Channel Four show took on Northside FC, who play in the Oldham Sunday League, for the second time this year.
When the teams first met at Northside’s Broadway stadium in January, the local lads beat the soap stars 3-1. But the Hollyoaks XI put themselves back on top with a 4-1 win at Oldham Athletic’s ground on Wednesday night.
January’s event raised around £3,000 for Francis House and Northside’s junior teams and this week’s match generated another £1,000 for the same causes.
At half-time, Latics mascot Chaddy the Owl and Manchester United mascot Fred the Red entertained the crowd as they took shots on goal.
Northside’s assistant player manager Nathan Ashcroft said: “The Hollyoaks lads got their revenge so we’ll call it a draw for now and we’ll arrange another match for next year so we can see who gets the best of three.
“The turning point for their victory was a wonder goal from Nico Mirallegro (Newt) who scored from the half-way line. All the lads from Hollyoaks are fantastic and we are all really grateful to them for coming down to Oldham again to support our fundraising campaign.”
Northside FC has teams from Under 6 all the way up to adults and spends around £10,000 a season on training and kit.
