OLDHAM sweltered under the scorching sun this weekend as temperatures soared to 28.3C (83F) on Saturday.
Temperatures in the borough beat European holiday hotspots with Malaga reaching 25C (77F), Tenerife 22C (71.6F) and Athens only managing 19C (66.2F).
Evening Chronicle weatherman Damian Rodgers said it was the hottest day in Oldham since July, 2006, when temperatures hit 31C (90F), and also the hottest May day since 1980.
However, the sunny spell looks set to end this week with forecasts of just 11C (52F) predicted for Thursday.
