Seaside theme for festival weekend
THE sights and sounds of the seaside are coming to town this weekend complete with a sandy beach, street performers and live music.
Festival Oldham, on Saturday and Sunday noon-4pm, is organised by Oldham Town Centre Partnership and Oldham Arts Development
Andrew Fletcher, Town Centre Partnership chairman, said: “Everyone loves to be beside the seaside and Festival Oldham promises to be a great event for all the family. Oldham town centre will come to life as shoppers are entertained on our own promenade over the weekend.”
On Saturday, shoppers can and take in Punch and Judy shows and meet a clairvoyant while artist Andrew Baynes creates sand sculptures outside the Spindles.
Outside the Tommyfield Market there will be music from local and international brass bands while youngsters can experience a traditional donkey ride. There will also be cheeky lifeguards and Victorian bathers making a splash plus musical laughs from The Cod Choir and samba sounds from Juba do Leão.
Sunday will be packed full of children’s shows and arts activities including sandcastle competitions, musical performances and dance classes with Mr Whippy and the Conettes.
Everyone can get creative by adding artwork to 8ft high letters spelling Oldham.
All activities are free with most events taking place around the beach scene outside the Spindles.
