A DEDICATED couple are joint winners of the Volunteer of Saddleworth award for their community efforts.
At a final fund-raiser for the outgoing parish council chairman’s charity committee at Greenfield Conservative Club, Councillor Alma McInnes presented John and Kath Angove with the prestigious award.
Councillor McInnes was succeeded as chairman this week by Councillor Keith Begley.
The hard-working Angoves have pitched in to help dozens of community projects, including the chairman’s charity committee, Macmillan cancer support and the running of the Wednesday tea dances at Uppermill’s Civic Hall.
Kath said: “We just like helping people.
“We have been very fortunate and if we can give pleasure and enjoyment to other people by giving something back, then that is what we want.”
The glass award will now take pride of place in their home.
The couple also help Springhead Community Association and Saddleworth and Lees Safety Committee.
Councillor McInnes said that they were the clear choice for the award after nominations came flooding in.
John added: “We were surprised when we won because the room was full of people who give something back.
“The award is not just for us, it is for the whole community of Saddleworth.”
